CAPACS Privacy Statement

The Commission on the Accreditation of Programs in Applied and Clinical Sociology (CAPACS or the Commission) is committed to the privacy and protection of personal and institutional data and information collected on the CAPACS website.

Data and Information collected on the CAPACS website is used solely for the internal purposes of the Commission. This entails responding to visitor and program inquiries and requests for assistance in preparing a program for higher education accreditation in applied, clinical, and/or engaged public sociology, or sociological practice. At no time will the Commission disseminate, distribute, or share personal and institutional data and information with third-parties without the express, written consent of the visitor or program. A visitor or program that submits personal and institutional data and information on the CAPACS website may, at any time, request that this content be removed from the Commission's records.

Pursuant to this commitment, the Commission on the Accreditation of Programs in Applied and Clinical Sociology has undertaken the following measures to ensure and safeguard the use of personal and institutional data and information submitted by visitors and programs on the CAPACS website:

SSL Security Certificate

In July 2018, Google will "raise the bar"ť on website security for the substantial number of Chrome users and others who are concerned about data privacy and financial transactions on U.S. websites. Beginning with Chrome version 68, the Google search bar will designate all websites without a SSL Security Certificate as “not secure.” Other search engines and providers are likely to follow.

Accordingly, CAPACS has arranged for a renewable multi-year/multi-domain SSL Security Certificate for https://sociologycommission.org, the Commission’s primary domain, and https://capacs.net, the Commission’s secondary domain, with full data encryption, with its website provider, GoDaddy.com, to host and secure the CAPACS website. In Chrome, your browser search bar will indicate that these domains are “secure” with the "lock" symbol. If you do not see these designations in the search bar, please update Chrome to the latest version, clear the cache, and reload the CAPACS websites. For additional information, please consult Google’s SSL Security Policy for the new protocols for hosted websites.

European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Security on U.S. websites is necessary with the passage of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by the European Union (EU), which took effect on May 25th, 2018. The GDPR is the new legal framework that directly applies to EU Member States. Entities in the United States, or in other non-EU countries, that collect or process personal data of any employee, visitor, prospect, program, customer, partner, or supplier based in the EU, also is required to be compliant with the GDPR. The Commission assures visitors, programs, and other users of the CAPACS website that it actively monitors the CAPACS website for compliance with the GDPR with governance procedures implemented and overseen by the CAPACS Website Oversight Review Committee, as endorsed by the CAPACS Board of Directors.

Please Contact CAPACS if you have questions.
